Where Embroidery Leaps from the Canvas

Experience embroidery that breaks the flat plane. My 3D and textured works use raised stitches, stumpwork, and mixed media to create sculptural, tactile designs that invite a closer look.

Art you can not only see, but almost feel.

Techniques for Tactile Design

Raised Stitches

Beyond flat surfaces, techniques like French knots, bullion knots, and padded satin stitches add significant volume and intricate textures. These methods create designs that literally stand out, inviting exploration with the eye as light plays across their three-dimensional forms.

Stumpwork

Originating in the 17th century, stumpwork involves creating individual, often wired, embroidered elements that are then applied to the main fabric. This allows for unparalleled realism in flowers, insects, and figures, giving pieces a sculptural quality that truly elevates fiber art.

Mixed Media Integration

To further enrich the tactile experience, I often incorporate diverse materials such as delicate beads, soft wool roving, or even tiny natural elements. These additions create unexpected contrasts and depths, making each artwork a unique sensory journey.

Designing for Touch and Sight

For me, the essence of contemporary fiber art lies in its ability to transcend the purely visual. When I concept a piece, I'm not only thinking about color and composition, but also how light will engage with every raised stitch, how each loop and knot will cast its own miniature shadow, and the inherent desire to reach out and feel the texture.

My dimensional artworks are an invitation to experience art more viscerally—to engage with the exquisite craftsmanship on a deeper level. This interplay of light, shadow, and tangible texture creates a richer narrative, transforming thread into sculpture and bringing a dynamic life to each creation.
